MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—The second deputy speaker of the Somali parliament, Osman Elmi Boqore, said Saturday Ethiopia agreed to release two Somali lawmakers and a police officer jailed in Jig-Jiga Ethiopia.

The two Somali legislators, Hussein Mohamed Mohamud, Abdullahi Mohamed Farey, and Ahmed Ugas, a Somali police officer were arrested in Ethiopia last month.

The MPs were heading to Hiiraan region in central Somalia when they were arrested by Ethiopian soldiers.

Mr. Boqore said Ethiopia accepted to release the lawmakers and expressed hope that they will soon get their freedom.

It is not known why Ethiopia had jailed the Somali lawmakers, but some reports suggest that they did not inform their travel to the Ethiopian government.
