Somalia: Fresh fighting erupts in Mogadishu

MOGADSISHU, Somalia, June 17 (Mareeg)—Fresh fighting between government soldiers and Islamist rebels has erupted in Dharkeynley district in Mogadishu, leaving 4 people wounded, witnesses said on Friday.

Dharkeynley is among the few districts in Mogadishu under the control of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia (TFG).

Residents say the fighting started after the rebels attacked bases of the government soldiers in the area early on Friday and the sounds of heavy gun fire could be heard parts of the capital.

The exact causality of the fighting is not known yet. The fighting subsided now. The circulation of the traffic and the people stopped in the area.

Thousands of families who fled from the other parts of the capital reside in Dharkeynley district in Mogadishu.
